WHY GET COLLECTIVE?

'Alone we can do so little, together we can achieve so much'  Helen Keller

Welcome to The Community Collectives

Hi, I’m Averil Rafferty — a project coordinator, grant writer, presenter, and facilitator who loves bringing ideas to life through creative, hands-on methods. I work with community groups, organisations, and schools using approaches that make collaboration fun, practical, and inspiring. I’m trained in Improv and certified in LEGO® Serious Play®, both of which add imagination and energy to everything I do.

I’ve seen the amazing ideas that live inside communities — and I’ve also seen how time pressures, low confidence, or lack of support can hold things back.

That’s why I created The Community Collectives: to help turn community ideas into action.

I believe every community already has the ingredients it needs — sometimes it just takes a spark to bring them together. I help groups find that spark, secure resources, and design creative plans that lead to lasting results.

Through playful workshops and practical support, I help people get unstuck, get connected, and get things moving.

Let’s bring your ideas to life and build playful, thriving communities — one great project at a time.

Removing Barriers

Each community is so unique with a variety of strengths, opportunities and challenges.  Let's meet to come up with a plan on how best you can be supported to discover the next steps for becoming a community change maker.

Will it be straighforward?  Rarely!  However it will usually be a lot of fun, a great learning journey and we will take positive steps forward together.

Testimonials

Averil is amazing at mustering up people and energy!  We got a lovely group together over the year long programme and I could not believe  how much we got going!

Martina, Project participant, Ballymun

Averil has brought a great awareness of sustainability and the circular economy to our community. She held a very successful clothes swap event and facilitated a sustainability workshop. She motivated us with a tree planting event and sourced bird boxes which were installed by locals. She also applied for various grants on our behalf, giving us the tools to effect change in our neighbourhood.

Mandy, Chairperson, Belarmine Residents Association, Stepaside

Averil is an inspiration, she encourages me and the group to meet their potential.  We created a space to teach food preservation and cooking within the community together.  The goal was to spread the word about the circular economy

Laura,  Chef and project participant, Finglas

I attended a workshop facilitated by Averil .  It was a very diverse group that didn't know each other beforehand, but within a short while we were sharing fears, ideas and constructive solutions while having a laugh together too.  She has a very gentle and supportive approach that made everyone feel welcome and their contributions valued.

Mairead O'Connor, Skills Development Manager, The Wheel

Averil created such a warm and thoughtful atmosphere for our Build and be Heard session.  We found it practical, thought provoking and fun!  Would recommend to all sorts of groups.

WORKING TOGETHER

I offer a variety of options from 6 week drama courses to one off community workshops.  I also regularly speak at community events.  Here's some more information.

01

Community Education

I have designed and delivered educational programmes on topics of interest to community groups/youth groups such as horticulture, financial literacy, sustainable living and health related fitness.  I use a universal design for learning approach so that there are multiple ways of learning the material.

02

Wing It

We run 6 week community improv courses that help build creativity and communication skills in a relaxed class starting with very easy exercises and gradually moving onto scene work once the group builds confidence.  We also use some theatre of the oppressed techniques if the community group want to put on a community event.

03

Co-Creating clubs and Community Gardens

I have helped communities set up sewing groups, bike mechanic courses, regular clothes swap events, cycling clubs or bicycle libraries.  By consulting and brainstorming with the stakeholders in the community we have come up with programmes to run that can achieve climate action goals and improve community well being, New Paragraph

04

Climate Action

Engaging communities around just transition, climate action, and social justice can be challenging, but it’s where real change begins. At Community Collectives, we specialize in using a collaborative, community development approach to help groups navigate these challenges.

Whether you're struggling to spark engagement or have accessed funding and aren’t sure where to start, we’re here to help. Together, we’ll develop and implement tailored projects that meet your community’s unique needs and goals.
